iPhone, Flex4, BlazeDS and Grails Case Study

Abstract

Since Apple announced the iPad and demonstrated on stage the fact that it doesn't support Flash, a lot of opinionated blog posts have predicted the demise of the Flash platform in favor of HTML5. The main problem is that HTML5 is still years away from final specification, that it still poses some problems we thought had been solved for good (eg video codec hell) and Flash still remains the best way to offer rich user experience in a productive and cross-platform way.

The purpose of this presentation is to show you how we can combine the power of the Flash platform using Flex 4 and the iPhone SDK with the productivity of Grails on the server. To do that we will build a sample application from scratch using those technologies, and we will explore some of the techniques that will be available soon.
