Problem Determination, Performance, and Reliability in a SOA

The loosely-coupled nature of services in a SOA along with other characteristics enable SOA to offer clear benefits, not the least being better alignment between the business and IT sides of the organization. However, that very same architecture and the complexity implicit in it bring hidden challenges and risks to any project. How can we address and respond to the risks and complications inherent in the very nature of SOA? Understanding the true nature, performance, and availability of business transactions in real-time is an important foundation for success in any distributed system. This session will start by providing a real-world example of effective distributed systems monitoring for both production and QA environments. Equally important is a realization of the dependency between services and their underlying IT infrastructure, so we will illustrate and discuss additional challenges when including a service-oriented layer. Lastly, we will make concrete recommendations so that you can be prepared to deliver verifiably successful services and effectively triage business transaction failures in real-time.
